How to Organize Your OFW Money Each Month
A simple monthly process for seeing your overseas income, family remittances, living costs, savings goals, and debts in one clear picture.
This guide is for financial organization and education. It is not personalized financial, investment, tax, insurance, or legal advice.
Start with the full picture
Give every peso a clear place.
Money can feel scattered when income arrives in one currency, expenses happen in another, and family support is discussed across messages and calls. Begin by recording what actually came in, then organize where it went. The goal is visibility—not a perfect month.
A repeatable routine
Five steps for each month.
Record income received
List each amount that reached you after conversion or transfer fees. Note the date and currency so you can understand the number later.
Plan family remittances
Write the intended amount, purpose, and date before sending. Separate regular household support from one-off requests.
List essential costs
Record the costs you need to cover where you live and work, including housing, food, transport, communication, and required payments.
Name savings and debt amounts
Assign an amount to each savings goal and scheduled debt payment. Keep each goal separate so its progress stays visible.
Keep a buffer and review
Leave room for irregular costs, then compare your plan with what actually happened before preparing the next month.
Fictional example
A ₱50,000 monthly setup
Family remittances
Planned support for household needs
Living costs abroad
Housing, food, travel, and essentials
Savings goals
Emergency, return-home, or other named goals
Debt payments
Scheduled payment for the month
Monthly buffer
Room for irregular or unexpected costs
These amounts are fictional, not recommended percentages or targets. Your income, responsibilities, costs, and priorities will be different.
End-of-month check
Review before you reset.
A short review helps turn a collection of numbers into a useful plan for the next month. Answer these questions using your own records.
- Did I record all income actually received this month?
- Did the remittances I sent match the amounts I planned?
- Which essential costs changed from last month?
- Did I add money to each savings goal as planned?
- Are my debt balances and payment dates up to date?
- What one adjustment should I carry into next month?
